  2. Requirements (Applicants coming to the Embassy in Paris)

    1. Valid Passport (Minimum of six months validity)
    2. Visa application form duly completed
    3. Return ticket reservation and its copy
    4. 1 standard passport size photo (home made photos will not be accepted)
    5. Visa fee (payable only in cash):

      • 20 Euros for a Single Entry Journey (Tourist or Business)
      • 40 Euros for a Double Entry journey (Tourist or Business)
      • For Multiple Entry Visas, please contact the Visa Section for ample explanation
    6. For a business visa, an official letter from the employer must be produced.

    NB: Applications not meeting the above requirements will be considered INCOMPLETE and will not be accepted.

    Applications by Post

    The following documents should be mailed to the Visa Section:

    1. Valid passport (minimum six months validity)
    2. Visa application form duly filled
    3. A print out of the return ticket reservation
    4. 1 standard passport size photo (home made photos will not be accepted)
    5. Visa fee (payable only by postal money order):

      • 20 Euros for a Single Entry Journey (Tourist or Business)
      • 40 Euros for a Double Entry Journey (Tourist or Business)
      • For Multiple Entry visas, please contact the Visa Section for ample explanation
    6. For a business visa, an official letter from the employer must be produced.
    7. Self addressed stamped envelope (registered mail tariff) for the return of the passport. The envelope must have sufficient return postage.

  6. NB: For this category, applicants should not buy their tickets before the authority to grant the visa has been issued. It takes around 2 months for authority to be granted or denied counting from the date the application is received by the Embassy.

  9. Importation of Pets
  10. Those wishing to travel with their cats or dogs must obtain an importation licence from the Embassy before travel. This should be done at least six days before the date of arrival of the animal in Kenya. Documents required are;

    1. Passport of the animal
    2. An anti-rabbis Vaccination Certificate
    3. A medical certificate from the veterinary dating less than 6 days prior to the arrival date of the animal into Kenya.
    4. 40 Euros fee for the licence.

  11. Vaccinations and other health requirements
  12. There is no mandatory health requirement for visitors wishing to travel to Kenya, however, yellow fever vaccination and an anti-malarial treatment is recommended.

  13. Foreign Nationals Intending to Conduct a Marriage in Kenya
  14. Foreign nationals intending to conduct a marriage in Kenya need to have the following documents:

    1. Birth Certificates
    2. Valid Passports
    3. Decree Absolutes (if divorced)
    4. Death Certificate (If widowed)
    5. Separate Statutory Declarations sworn at a solicitor’s/Notary’s Office, stating the fact that one is single and free to marry. This should bear the solicitor’s signature and Official stamp.
    6. Parental consent in form of a legal document for persons below 21 years of age
    7. Residency in Kenya for at least 21 days. If this is not possible then a Special Licence should be obtained beforehand by contacting the Registrar’s Office in Kenya.

  15. Foreign Nationals Intending to work, do volunteer work or internship/training in Kenya
  16. All foreign personnel coming to work in Kenya must have an entry permit, also referred to as “work permit”. A foreigner worker’s dependants (spouse and family) require dependants’ passes. In both cases, application has to be made to the Director of Immigration services in Kenya. Non-citizens also require Aliens Registration certificates and should obtain re-entry passes if they travel outside Kenya. All these permits are usually valid for 2 years.

    • Travellers going to Kenya for business meetings and conferences require a Business Visa. This category of traveller does not require a work Permit.
    • However, for internship/training or work, it should be noted that a Work Permit is required whether the activity is remunerated or not.
    • For such Permits, the company/organization receiving/sending the foreigner to Kenya should contact directly the Department of Immigration in Nairobi. The foreigner needs to have the Permit before s/he starts the Job, internship/training or volunteer work in Kenya.

  18. Foreign Nationals wishing to settle in Kenya should contact directly the Department of Immigration. This Department will give them information on the different types of Residence Permits, application requirements, the processing procedures and duration.

  1. What is a Single Entry Visa? /When do I need a Single Entry Visa?
  2. This type of visa is issued to travellers wishing to enter Kenya once within a period of 3 months.
  3. What is a Double Entry Visa? /When do I need a Double Entry Visa?
  4. This type of visa is issued to travellers intending to enter Kenya twice within a period of 3 months.
  5. What is a Multiple Entry Visa?
  6. This is a visa that is valid for a period of 12 months. It allows the holder to go in and out of Kenya as many times as they wish during the period of validity of the visa. This type of visa is ONLY issued to persons travelling to Kenya for business purposes.
  7. How much do I pay for a Single Entry Visa?
  8. A single Entry Visa is 20€
  9. How much do I pay for a Double Entry Visa?
  10. A Double Entry Visa is 40€
  11. How much do I pay for a Multiple Entry Visa?
  12. Issue of this visa is subject to authority granted by Immigration Department Nairobi, Kenya. Once authority has been granted, the applicant is notified and a fee of 40€ will be required.
  13. My child who is under 16 years of age is still endorsed on my passport. Does s/he need a separate visa?
  14. No visa formality is necessary for the child. The visa on the parent’s passport is also valid for the child endorsed on the passport. However, the child must travel with the holder of the passport.
  15. If I am intending to go to Kenya, then to Tanzania or Uganda and back to Kenya within the same trip, do I need a Single Entry Visa or a Double Entry Visa?
  16. As a tourist, a Single Entry Visa is sufficient for the trip. But for a person on a business trip, only a Double entry Visa will allow them to re-enter Kenya from Tanzania or Uganda.
  17. When do I need a Transit Visa?
  18. Only when you leave the airport in which case they have to go through Immigration; for example when you go out to spend a few hours in the city centre of Nairobi before connecting your next flight to another destination. Travellers who remain within the transit zone do not require Transit Visas.
  19. Does the Embassy issue Transit Visas?
  20. The Embassy does not issue transit visas. This type of visa is ONLY issued upon arrival of the traveller at any port of entry into Kenya.
  21. Are there any special tariffs on group visas?
  22. Visa fee is the same for individual applications as well as for group applications.
  23. I am going to do volunteer work in Kenya. What type of visa do I require?
  24. You need to apply for a Business Visa. However, it should be noted that a work Permit is required to enable you to conduct this type of activity in Kenya.
  25. I am going for internship/training in Kenya. What type of visa do I need?
  26. You need to apply for a Business Visa. However, it should be noted that a work Permit is required to enable you to conduct this type of activity in Kenya.
  27. I am going for a business meeting or conference. What type of visa do I need?
  28. You need to apply for a Business Visa.
  29. I am a journalist and I need to go to Kenya to film, make a documentary or other. What type of visa do I need?
  30. You need to apply for a Business Visa. You also need to contact the Filming Department in Kenya at least 14 days prior to you arrival date into Kenya to find out formalities concerning film licences and fees in Kenya.
  31. Does the Embassy Issue work Permits?
  32. No. The Embassy does not issue any permits. For all Permits, applicants must contact the Department of Immigration directly.

Take note that:

Visa
  • Visas are valid for 3 months from the date of issue
  • Visa fee is non-refundable.
  • Visas are issued within 3 working days (not applicable for applications sent by POST)
  • Visa applications sent by post are processed within 15 working days.
  • The Embassy does not accept payment by personal cheques.
  • For all applications done through a travel/visa agency, individual applicants should not call the Embassy to inquire about the application. The travel/visa agency that forwards the application on behalf of the traveller shall be our only contact person and not the individual applicant.
