Kenya has established diplomatic relations with many countries in the world and pursues a Foreign Policy founded on universally recognized norms including: good neighborliness, non-interference in the internal affairs of other states, peaceful co-existence, peaceful settlement of disputes, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of other states and non-alignment. In the sub-region, Kenya remains in the forefront in the search for peace and facilitates the provision of humanitarian assistance to populations in conflict areas. As a member of the United Nations, Kenya has participated in many UN peacekeeping and peace making operations. Currently, Kenya has peacekeeping troops in East Timor and Sierra Leone and is part of United Nations Observer Missions in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. She has participated in UN peacekeeping operations in Cambodia and Western Sahara.

Kenya is committed to the promotion of economic and social development and has undertaken harsh reform measures to realize this objective. Kenya understands that maximum economic and social benefits can only be achieved through cooperation, and that the multi-dimensional problems afflicting mankind today have to be tackled at a global level. Kenya therefore supports multilateralism through the United Nations System, North-South Cooperation and will continue to promote regional integration through Organizations such as; Common Market for Eastern and Southern African States (COMESA), GROUP of 15, Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), East African Co-operation (EAC) etc. Kenya further seeks to strengthen and expand relations with other development partners at bilateral level as well as within the Commonwealth, in order to achieve our objectives in areas of democracy, good governance, gender equality, socio-economic and human resource development, and environmental protection.
