::: SPORTS
Kenya
is a great sporting nation with outstanding
achievements in athletics where personalities
like Kipchoge Keino, Ben Jibcho, Henry Rono,
Paul Tergat, Douglas Wakiihuri, Tekla Lorupe,
among others, have either been Olympic or
World Chmpions or both.
As early as the sixties, one named Serafano
Antao, running barefoot, set the fastest
time in 100 metres record. But because he
ran barefoot, his breathtaking record time
was never recognized as a world record.
Overall, however, Kenya's strength remains
in the middle and long distance events in
which a new champion is produced in almost
every major event.
Other major sporting activities include
football, rugby, cricket and golf. Also,
volleyball and netball have produced strong
teams at club and national level in football.
Considerable effort and attention are now
underway to develop soccer to compete effectively
at continental and world levels. We hope
to emulate other African countries' performances
at Continent, Olympics and the World Cup
levels.
In cricket, Kenya has now appliend for test
status. Already, she holds one day international
status. Kenya is alreaduy a force to reckon
with in rugby. We hasten to add that Kenya
has some of the finest golf courses on the
continent. You only need to visit and see
for yourself.
OTHER SPORTS ACTIVITIES:
Other activities of interest to visitors
include day and night game drives; bush
walks; horse riding; game watching up close
from secluded game blinds; day and overnight
camel safaris; educational talks on the
conservancy and related issues such as walking
safaris and trout fishing.
