Consular Services Offered by the Mission

  1. Processing of applications for new Kenya passports, renewals and issuance of Emergency Travel documents and Certificates of Identity.
  2. Processing of applications for Certificates of Good Conduct and Certificates of No impediment to Marriage.
  3. Repatriation of Kenyans in distress.
  4. Registration of births and deaths of Kenyans in the region.
  5. Issuing of Licences for Importation of pets to Kenya, on behalf of the Director of Veterinary Services.
  6. Translation, Legalization and Certification of documents.
  7. Giving general information and advice on Kenyan immigration matters.
  8. Issuing of visas to prospective visitors to Kenya.
  9. Intervening in case of arrest of Kenyans.

Opening Hours

The Consular Section is open from Monday to Friday; between 10 a.m.-12 noon and between 3 p.m.-4 p.m.

Telephone inquiries can be made from Monday-Friday between 9.30 a.m.-12.30 p.m. and between 2.30 p.m.-4.30 p.m.

KENYA PASSPORTS

  1. Renewal of a Kenya Passport (After fives years of validity)

  2. This should be done three months prior to the expiry date of the Passport.

    The following documents are required:

    1. Application PP.3 duly filled (Download here)
    2. Current Passport
    3. 12 Euros in cash if the applicant comes to the Embassy or by postal money order (payable to Kenya Embassy Paris) if the application is mailed to the Embassy.
    4. Self addressed stamped (registered mail tariff) envelope for the return of the passport if the applications is sent by post).
    5. Clearly indicate IN FULL, your residential and or postal address for any correspondence from the Mission.

  3. Application for a NEW Kenya Passport (After ten years of Validity)

  4. This should be done three months prior to the expiry date.

    The following documents are required:

    1. Passport Application Form PP.1Download here
    2. 3 recent passport size photographs
    3. 3 copies of Birth Certificate
    4. Current passport
    5. Three copies of passport pages containing the following information:
      • (a) Page with photo and biographical details
        (b) Page featuring the R number (Immigration File number)
        (c) Passport renewals page
        (d) Any other page with amendments, endorsements or other important personal information
    6. 45 euros in cash if the applicant comes to the Embassy or by postal money order (payable to Kenya Embassy Paris) if the application is sent by mail
    7. Proof of legal stay in the country of residence
    8. For students; proof of current studies in the country of residence (copy of student card or admission letter)
    9. A copy of marriage certificate for ladies who wish to change their names.
    10. A self addressed stamped envelope for the return of the passport (registered mail tariff)

    NB: The same conditions apply for those whose passports are still valid but have no pages available for visas or observations

  5. Replacement of a lost Kenya Passport
  6. The following documents are required:

    1. Passport application Form PP.1
    2. Police abstract indicating loss of the document
    3. A self explanatory letter addressed to the Ambassador; explaining the circumstances of the loss and requesting for a replacement
    4. 3 recent passport size photographs
    5. 3 copies Birth Certificate
    6. 3 copies of the lost Passport (if you have any)
    7. Give the R number (Immigration File number) for easier tracing of the file
    8. Passport replacement fees; 116 euros in cash if the applicant comes to the Embassy or by postal money order (Payable to Kenya Embassy Paris) if the application is sent by mail.
    9. Proof of legal stay in the country of residence
    10. For students; proof of current studies in the country of residence (copy of student card or admission letter)
    11. Cleary indicate, IN FULL, your residential and postal address for any correspondence from the Mission.

  7. Replacement of a damaged Kenya Passport (Even when still valid)
  8. The following documents are required:

    1. Passport Application Form PP.1Download here
    2. 3 recent passport size photographs

    5. 3 copies of passport pages containing the following information:
      • (a) Page with photo and biographical details

    6. 93 euros in cash if the applicant comes to the Embassy or by postal money order (payable to Kenya Embassy Paris) if the application is sent by mail

    9. A copy of marriage certificate for ladies who wish to change their names.

  9. Application for a Kenya Passport for a child under 16 years of age
  10. The following documents are required:

    1. Passport application form PP.2Download here
    2. 2 passport size photos
    3. 3 copies of child's Birth Certificate
    4. 3 copies of the following pages of father's Kenya Passport:
      • i. Page with photo and biographical details
        ii. Page featuring the R N° (Immigration File Number)
        iii. Passport renewals page
        iv. Any other page with amendments, endorsements or other important personal information
    5. 45 euros in cash if the application is brought to the Mission or by postal money order (payable to Kenya Embassy Paris) if the application is sent by mail.
    6. Proof of parent's legal stay in country of residence
    7. 3 copies of parents' Marriage Certificate (where applicable).
    8. Clearly indicate IN FULL, your residential and or postal address for any correspondence from the Mission.

  11. Renunciation of Kenyan Citizenship
  12. The Kenya Passport must be surrendered to the Mission.

    The following documents are to be submitted to the Mission:

    1. Application form duly filled
    2. Current Kenya Passport
    3. 25 euros in cash if the application is brought to the Mission or by postal money order (payable to Kenya Embassy Paris) if the application is sent by mail.
    4. Clearly indicate IN FULL, your residential and or postal address for any correspondence from the Mission.

    OTHER CONSULAR SERVICES

  13. Application for a Certificate of no Impediment to Marriage
  14. The following documents are required:

    1. Application form N° 7 duly filled
    2. Copy of Birth Certificate
    3. Copy of Kenya Passport
    4. Proof of legal stay in country of residence (residence permit)
    5. 58 euros in cash if the applicant comes to the Embassy or by postal money order (payable to Kenya Embassy Paris) if the application is mailed to the Embassy.
    6. Clearly indicate IN FULL, your residential and or postal address for any correspondences from the Mission.

    NB: Applications may be submitted through the Embassy for onward transmission to Nairobi, or may be submitted in person (by applicant or applicant's family members) to:

  15. Certificat de Coutume
  16. The document is issued by the Embassy. It is only issued upon presentation of a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage.

    This can be done within 3 working days.

  17. Foreign Nationals Intending to get Married in Kenya
  18. Foreign nationals intending to conduct a marriage in Kenya need to have the following documents:

    1. Birth Certificates
    2. Valid Passports
    3. Decree Absolutes (if divorced)
    4. Death Certificate (If widowed)
    5. Separate Statutory Declarations sworn at a solicitor's/Notary's Office, stating the fact that one is single and free to marry. This should bear the solicitor's signature and Official stamp.
    6. Parental consent in form of a legal document for persons below 21 years of age
    7. Residency in Kenya for at least 21 days. If this is not possible then a Special Licence should be obtained beforehand by contacting the Registrar's Office in Kenya.

  19. Certificate of Good Conduct
  20. The forms can be picked from the Embassy and the following documents need to accompany the application.

    1. Application form duly filled
    2. Finger and palm prints taken at the Kenya Embassy
    3. Copy of Birth Certificate
    4. Copy of Passport
    5. Clear copy of new Generation ID
    6. For students, proof of current studies in country of residence
    7. For non-students; proof of legal stay in country of residence
    8. 12 euros in cash if the applicant comes to the Embassy or by postal money order (payable to Kenya Embassy) if the application is mailed by post
    9. Clearly indicate IN FULL, your residential and postal address for all correspondences from the Mission.

  21. Birth Certificates
    1. Registration of Birth of a Child born Abroad
    2. This is equivalent to application for a Birth certificate.

      Documents required :

      1. Application Form BDA.1
      2. Copy of child's Birth Certificate
      3. Copies of parent (s) Kenyan passport
      4. Copy of parents' Birth Certificates
      5. Proof of legal stay of parents in country of residence
      6. 3 euros in cash if the applicant comes to the Mission or by postal money order
      7. Clearly indicate IN FULL, your residential and or postal address for all correspondences form the Mission
    3. Application for a duplicate Birth Certificate following loss of the original document
    4. Documents required :

      1. Application Form duly filled
      2. Copy of the lost document
      3. Copies of applicants' passport
      4. Proof of legal stay of parents in country of residence
      5. 3 euros in cash if the applicant comes to the Mission or by postal money order
      6. Clearly indicate IN FULL, your residential and or postal address for all correspondences form the Mission

  22. Travel Document
  23. This is a one way document, issued to a Kenyan who needs to travel to Kenya urgently and has lost a passport.

    The applicant must come to the Mission in PERSON with the following documents:

    1. Two passport size photographs
    2. Copy of Birth Certificate
    3. Ticket Reservation to Kenya and a copy of the same
    4. No fee is charged for this document

  24. Certificate of Identity
  25. This document is issued to a Kenyan who has lost a Kenya passport and needs to travel urgently another foreign country.

    The applicant must come to the Mission in person with the following documents:

    1. Police abstract stating the loss of the Kenya Passport in question
    2. A self explanatory letter indicating the loss of the document
    3. Copies of the lost Kenyan passport (if any)
    4. Copy Birth Certificate
    5. Proof of legal stay of parents in country of residence
    6. 45 euros in cash if the applicant comes to the Mission or by postal money order

  26. Transporting the body of a deceased Kenyan Home
  27. Authority must be obtained from The Mission prior to conveyance. This is a letter of no objection for the transport of the remains to Kenya.

    For the authority to be granted, the following documents need to be produced:

    1. Kenyan Passport of the deceased.
    2. Birth Certificate of the deceased
    3. Death certificate issued by the Town council
    4. A Certificate of non-contagious disease signed by a medical practitioner,
    5. Authority by the Mayor and Registrar General of the town where the death occurred, to close the coffin,
    6. Clearly indicate IN FULL, a residential and or postal address for any correspondence from the Mission.

  28. Registration of Kenyans living in France and Portugal
  29. It is important to register with the Mission so that in case of any event or emergency, a Kenyan can be reached in good time.

  3. What happens to my passport after five years validity?
  4. One needs need to apply for the renewal of the passport three months prior to the expiry date.
  5. How long does it take to renew a Kenya Passport?
  6. For applications mailed to the Embassy, count 7 working for the renewal and posting back of the passport. If the applicant comes to the Mission, the passport can be renewed within the same hour.
  7. What happens to my passport after 10 years of validity?
  8. You need to apply for a new passport three months prior to the expiry date.
  9. How long does it take to have a new passport processed?
  10. 4 weeks minimum. The same applies for passport replacements.
  11. Can my lost passport be replaced?
  12. Yes, you simply need to apply for replacement of a lost passport as soon as you can.
  13. What do I do when my passport is still valid but damaged and I can no longer use it because authorities refuse to accept it?
  14. You also need to apply for a new passport (replacement of a damaged passport).
  15. How can I endorse my child on my passport?
  16. This is no longer possible. As from January 2007, children under 16 years of age can no longer be endorsed on parents’ passports. They need to have their own passports.
  17. My child who is under 16 years of age needs a passport. How do I go about it?
  18. There is need to apply for a passport for the child.
  19. I don’t know any Kenyan who can recommend my passport application form. Who else can do it?
  20. No need for panic. The Mission will do it once the application has been received.
  21. I’m planning to get married in France. How can I get a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage?
  22. You need to apply for the document at the Embassy.
  23. How long does it take to process the Certificate of no Impediment to Marriage?
  24. An application submitted through the Embassy takes around 3 months. Applications submitted by applicant in person or applicant’s family member directly at Registrar’s Office in Nairobi usually take a shorter period (less than a month).
  25. How can I obtain a ‘Certificat de Coutume’?
  26. The document is issued by the Embassy. It is only issued upon presentation of a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage. This can be done within a period of 3 working days.
  27. My child is born outside Kenya and I wish to register this birth in Kenya. How do I go about it?
  28. This is equivalent to an application for a Kenyan Birth Certificate. Once the registration has been done, a Kenyan Birth Certificate shall be issued to the child.
  29. How long does it take to get a Certificate of Good Conduct?
  30. Applications submitted through the Embassy take around 3 months to be processed.

    Kindly note

  1. The Mission is open to the public from Monday to Friday between 10.00a.m.-12.00 noon and between 3.00p.m. to 4.00 p.m. We are closed on French public holidays as well as Kenyan public holidays.
  2. The Mission is here to serve all Kenyans equally and that all genuine emergency cases will be dealt with outmost priority. However, we advice Kenyans to avoid negligence and have their passports and other documents renewed three months prior to the expiry date to avoid unnecessary inconveniences when emergencies arise.
  3. Keep a copy of your passport at all times, such copies will come in handy in case of loss of passport and a replacement is needed.
  4. When your passport is ready for collection, you shall be notified in writing or by phone in cases of emergency. It is unnecessary to call the Embassy every week to inquire about your passport application.
  5. The Mission prefers to deal directly with the applicant and not third parties. Embassy staff is fluent in Swahili, English and French.
