High-level French business delegation to visit Kenya

A high level French delegation interested in enhancing business in the East African region will visit Kenya from 4th to 7th March, 2018. The 66 member delegation with the heads of 43 leading French companies will be led by the Chairman of MEDEF (French employer federation) Mr. Pierre Gattaz.  The visit builds on the successful meeting between H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, the President of the Republic of Kenya and members of MEDEF during his official visit to France in April, 2016. The presence of French business executives in Kenya will create an opportunity to form partnerships and boost investment in the sectors represented by the delegation namely; transportation, banking, energy, oil and gas, retail, telecommunication, water and waste management, construction and infrastructure. Some of these sectors are Key in facilitating the achievement of the big four. During the delegation’s visit, a forum known as the “Stars in Africa,” an EU/Africa youth entrepreneurship forum will take place from 6th to 7th March 2018. The event is powered by MEDEF and aims to bring together African, European and international companies, startups, institutional organizations, academics and youth with a view to promoting youth entrepreneurs as actors of sustainable growth. Experts will therefore discuss concrete solutions with the objective of inclusive growth, creating value and employment during the sessions on; agribusiness, smart cities, investment in human capital, cultural entrepreneur, energy/environment, digital and financing among others. Kenya’s exports to France have increased by 6% in 2016 and 21.8% in 2017. Major exports to France are horticultural products. As regards to FDI flows, French companies are increasingly focusing on Kenya and currently  over 100 companies have established businesses in the following areas; Transport, Logistics, Cement, Energy, Vehicle Industry, Electronics, Banking, Retail, Pharmaceuticals, Perfumes among others.
